“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him. “ (II Chr 16:9)
rom the very beginning, God has been looking for a particular kind of man; one whose heart is perfect toward Him. Perfect does not mean without fault, but it refers to a heart that is completely sold out to God. It is a heart fully focused on getting to know Him. It is a heart that is willing to lay aside anything that will keep it from getting closer to Him.
When Adam sinned, do you think God was taken by surprise? He did not say, “Oops! I never saw that one coming!” No, He knew what Adam was going to do and had already designed a plan for man’s redemption. His plan required a covenant people who would follow Him and worship Him alone, so He could bring the Messiah to Earth to take back what Adam had lost in the garden. That is when God began looking for the man who had a perfect heart. toward Him. He was searching for a man who would become the father of this new covenant nation, through whom Jesus would be born and all the nations of the earth would be blessed.
What was God looking for? How does He decide who has a perfect heart? What is the determining factor that says, “Here I am, Lord! Come see me! Show Yourself strong in my behalf!”? What is it that causes Him to choose one person while passing over many others?

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” (Rom 1:20-22)

This warns us that we must keep God in our thoughts and acknowledge Him as our Lord and be thankful. This is the foundation of a perfect heart. The Bible clearly teaches that we have a personal responsibility to hear the Word, to believe it and to act on it.

I address this and other issues in my book, “The Power in Believing,” I will continue to put more excerpts from it on my site, so come back often.
